Zaca Peak was the first permanent Fire Lookout Station on what was the Santa Barbara National Forest, now the Los Padres. A crude, 25 foot pole tower with a canvas roofed platform was erected.
The site was only used for 3 years before being replaced by Figueroa Mountain as a primary site.
