Description
A 54' fire tower overlooking Pine Mountain stood was in operation at this site from 1964 to 1978. It was dismantled in 1980. Its piers are still visible on Birch Knob.
A new steel observation deck was installed at approximately the same site as the old tower in 2003. 183 stairs provide access from parking to the top of the observation deck. The site provides views of Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and on a clear day, Ohio.
