Description

This 80' steel tower with small cab and a rectangle ground cabin was moved to Sooez Peak in 1957, used as a fire lookout by Makah tribal members and as an AWS site during WWII, taken down in 1973 and is currently lying on the ground there in the woods. The ground cabin was so well built that even with the roof gone due to a tree falling on it and the floor rotting out, the walls still stand straight and true. There is an interesting arrangement with the rain gutter on the north side where the rain water was run into a barrel to provide water for washing clothing. The stove, a bench, a couple cots and other items are still in the cabin. There are four concrete tower bases on the site as well as a center concrete block that was a base for the tower ladder.
