The 68-foot Camp Douglas Tower was a Wisconsin standard stairway style featuring internal dogleg stairs, rather than the much more common cage-protected external ladder variant. Both styles were developed by the Wisconsin Conservation Commission in the early 30’s. While the external ladder type is abundant across Wisconsin, the stair style such as Camp Douglas is quite uncommon with relatively few ever being constructed. The Camp Douglas Lookout was built in 1932 and was staffed intermittently during spring fire season until 2015 when Wisconsin decommissioned its lookout network.
This tower was removed in 2023.
