The original Offield Mountain Lookout may have been constructed as early as 1919 when Frank Offield is noted as the first operator. The structure was a California Region 5 Plan 4A on an 8 foot open timber tower. A telephone line was added in 1923.
A new structure was completed about 100 yards away from the old site in 1933, a USFS R1 Plan cabin on an 18 foot enclosed timber tower. The lookout stood in 1981 but was gone by 1986 when the Thornton Survey was conducted.
