Description

The lookout was constructed in 1934 according to the 1986 Thornton Survey. The ground cabin was a California Region 5 Plan BC-301. The lookout may have been used as an Aircraft Warning Service site during WWII but was not built for that purpose despite the Stanislaus National Forest notation below.

Summit Ranger District, 8,440' elevation. This lookout was originally built as a National Defense Observation Tower during World War II. It was staffed from 1939-1973. It is no longer standing. (Stanislaus National Forest)
