The tower was commonly host to local Boy Scout hikes and featured a cabin at the bottom which still remains. The tower was taken down in the mid 1990s. One of the last locals to volunteer at the tower, Buddy Altice, remembers the boys coming up to learn how to use the fire finder, as well as hosting them overnight to learn how to camp.
